Getting Started

Set up WalletForecast and start forecasting in minutes

Quick Start Guide

Get up and running in 3 simple steps

  1. Download WalletForecast from the App Store
  2. Enter your current bank balance when prompted
  3. Add your recurring income (salary, benefits)
  4. Add your recurring expenses (rent, bills, subscriptions)
  5. That's it! View your forecast for up to 1 year ahead
  6. Update your balance weekly to keep forecasts accurate

First-Time Setup

Configure WalletForecast for your needs

  1. Set your starting balance to match your bank account
  2. Choose today's date as your starting date
  3. Create categories for your transactions (Housing, Food, etc.)
  4. Add your most important recurring transactions first
  5. Set up Face ID/Touch ID for quick access
  6. Export a backup of your data from Settings

Reconcile with your actual bank balance

  1. Tap the refresh icon next to your current balance
  2. Enter your actual bank balance from your statement
  3. Add an optional note about the update
  4. The app reconciles any differences automatically
  5. Your forecast adjusts from this new baseline
  6. Update weekly or after unexpected transactions

Understanding Balance Tracking

How current vs projected balance works

  1. "Current Balance" is your last confirmed bank balance
  2. "Projected Balance" includes transactions since then
  3. If they differ significantly, you may have missed transactions
  4. Regular updates catch forgotten expenses or income
  5. The app shows your last 3 balance updates for reference
  6. Use balance history to track your financial progress

Adding Transactions

Track one-time and recurring transactions

  1. Tap the "+" button to add a new transaction
  2. Choose "Quick Transaction" for one-time items
  3. Select Payment (expense) or Deposit (income)
  4. Enter the amount and description
  5. Choose or create a category for organization
  6. Set the date (can be future-dated for planning)

Recurring Transactions

Automate regular income and expenses

  1. Choose "Recurring Transaction" from the add menu
  2. Set the amount and description
  3. Choose frequency: Daily, Weekly, Bi-weekly, Monthly, etc.
  4. For monthly: pick a specific date or pattern (e.g., "First Monday")
  5. Set start date and optional end date
  6. Activate/deactivate anytime without deleting

Reading Your Forecast

Navigate your financial future

  1. Choose forecast period: 1, 3, 6, or 12 months
  2. The chart shows your balance trend over time
  3. Green indicates positive balance, red shows negative
  4. Tap any day to see transactions and ending balance
  5. Look for low balance warnings and alerts
  6. Use the summary to see lowest/highest points

  2. Negative Balance: Potential overdraft warning
  3. Significant Drop: Large percentage decrease in one day
  4. Review alerts to adjust spending or timing

See where your money goes

  1. Navigate to the Analysis tab
  2. View spending breakdown by category
  3. See visual charts of expense distribution
  4. Compare income vs expenses over time
  5. Identify your biggest spending categories
  6. Use insights to find savings opportunities

Transaction Filters

Find and review specific transactions

  1. Use filters: All, One-time, Recurring, or Upcoming
  2. Upcoming shows next 30 days of scheduled items
  3. Swipe left on any transaction for quick actions
  4. Edit amounts or dates as needed
  5. Deactivate recurring items temporarily
  6. Group view by date for easy review

Exporting Your Data

Create backups and transfers

  1. Go to Settings > Export Data
  2. Choose a location to save the JSON file
  3. File includes all transactions and settings
  4. Save to iCloud Drive or other secure location
  5. Use for backup or transferring to new device
  6. Export regularly to protect against data loss

Importing Data

Restore backups or migrate data

  1. Go to Settings > Import Data
  2. Select your exported JSON file
  3. Choose "Merge" to add to existing data
  4. Or "Replace" to start fresh with imported data
  5. Review import summary for any issues
  6. All data validation happens automatically

  1. Forecast off? CheckIcon recurring transaction dates
  2. Missing transactions? Review your recent updates
  3. Planning a purchase? Add it as a future transaction
  4. Subscription cancelled? Deactivate, don't delete
  5. Irregular income? Add when confirmed, update balance often
  6. Multiple currencies? App uses your device settings
